Last year I made 49 pieces (not including Bengals Cartoons or doodles) & put them all up on this site. I actually don't know if that was my most productive year yet because I normally didn't keep track but I think it probably was.
It was the first year I made a piece that suddenly got a life of its own. When I finished the Obama Inauguration Tribute
on a Tuesday, by Friday I was busy trying to keep up with the demands on it.
My Bengals Editorial Cartoons had a similar experience but nothing like this. I was excited when BengalsNation.com asked to pick up the cartoon & make it part of their site.
I started the mural at Sam's Quick Stop. I completed the Living in the City series
as well, which also drew a lot of interest. I've done a few portraits & explored glass etching,
sculpting, metal working (introducing the Metal Rose
& selling a handful of those). I made appearances at different galleries as well as working to have a great showing at SCPA during the Alunmni Day.
This year I started off with a challenge by experimenting with the famous Van Gogh stylized piece "Starry Night" & applying that approach to the Cincinnati skyline (I'm calling it "Starry Cincinnati").
I plan on doing a few other places as well. This will go to the World of Art in Kenwood Mall.
I tried analyzing Van Gogh's brush strokes, the order they appeared, how "clean" the colors were/weren't, which way it seemed he moved & possible reasons for his interpretation of his world. It was fun. I look forward to applying this same impressionist approach to more work to come.
Update
I finished the 2nd of this theme. New York City:
